Behind the Scenes
We are currently in the post-production phase of creating this film, having captured 5 weeks of rehearsal footage, the entire performance, and raw, vulnerable interviews with each of the artists involved. We believe that we have the footage, narrative, and emotional depth required to create a feature length documentary, celebrating the art, joy, and human connection that can come from a group of people committing to something wholeheartedly.
The People in the Movie
The artists in this film each carry their own gifts and struggles, from two musicians living with invisible illnesses who find unexpected understanding in one another, to a self-proclaimed fat-bodied dancer whose unquestionable strength, both physical and emotional, is placed on display, to a drag queen audio engineer who misses every single one of her cues and still wins our hearts. Garden Party is as flamboyantly rock nā roll as a music doc ought to be, while remaining utterly raw and heartfelt.
Representing Portland
In the slowly calming wake of the 2020 Covid crisis, Portland, Oregon has garnered a reputation for being unsafe and chaotic. This film represents the flip side of this city, showing how a passionate community of people with a shared struggle can create beauty, inclusivity, and the greatest party of all time in a city hit hard by Covid and the devastating opioid epidemic. We love our city, and this film is our way of giving back to what has been a haven to each and every one of us.
